Richard

We are keepers and breeders of English Working Cocker Spaniels.

Our Kennels are located in North Yorkshire, just outside York.  LongSword Working Cockers was set up 19 years ago by Richard and Anita Blades, after relocating from London, back to Richard’s home village in Yorkshire.

Over that time we have worked hard to gain a reputation as one of the top breeders of working cockers in the UK.

Working Cockers are undergoing a real resurgence in popularity, both as pets and as gun dogs. Twenty years ago, it was virtually impossible to find a Working Cocker on a shoot - now I defy you to find a shoot that hasn't got one! Their traits of extraordinary intelligence, dogged perseverance and small stature have endeared them to the shooting fraternity.

All our dogs work for a living, as well as being family pets.
We have made a conscious decision that our dogs show their abilities in the real environment of working shoots. So, you won't find us entering Field Trials or showing our dogs in gun dog classes. We firmly believe that the ability and breeding of our dogs speaks for itself and the best way for you to judge that, is to come and see them in action. You won't be disappointed.

In addition to breeding Working Cockers, Richard offers bespoke dog training on a one-to-one basis, when he is not cooking in professional kitchens, shooting, fishing or getting into trouble!

Most of the photographs on here have been taken by my friend and exceptionally talented fieldsports photographer Paul Mallatratt.  You can find him and more of his work @ http://www.mallyfieldphotography.co.uk/30  I can't recommend him highly enough. Paul occasionally undertakes private commissions.  It is well worth trying to get him to take pictures of your dogs.
